Custom ERP vs off-the-shelf — when not to buy AutoCount or Odoo
Custom ERP vs SaaS is not a brand preference. If AutoCount, SQL Accounting or Odoo matches how you already work, buy the product. NMMAN is not a product ERP, and we will say so when the boxed suite is the honest job.
Buy the product when it fits
AutoCount, SQL Accounting and Odoo are products. They have a module list, a partner channel, a licence. Plenty of Malaysian SMEs run them well. If your stock, invoices and reports already look like the demo, that is the cheaper, faster path.
Off-the-shelf is the right default. Custom is the exception. We are not a reseller competing on those licences, and we do not pretend a custom build is always smarter.
When an SME should not buy the product
Do not buy AutoCount, Odoo or a similar suite when you would have to change how people already work just to satisfy the software. The operation is then paying twice: once for the licence, and again in workarounds.
The same is true when inventory, procurement, finance and delivery fit together in a shape the module list does not have — or when you would still export to a spreadsheet every week to do the real work. Then the product is a shell, not a system.
Custom costs more time and money than a licence. If Odoo fits, buy Odoo. The conversation with us is only useful when it might not.
NMMAN is not a product ERP
We do not ship a boxed suite. We build or configure custom ERP around how the business actually runs — when the product is the wrong shape. That is a scoped software job, not a competitor to AutoCount on a price list.
Sometimes the right first step is smaller than ERP: a focused internal tool. We will say so. WhatsApp is enough to sort which case you are in.
